WHAT: The
Visual Artists Guild presents ART & DEMOCRACY IV Exhibition
to
highlight the 20 Year Anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre and
the Fall
of the Berlin Wall with the work of 33 acclaimed artists highlighting
the
political and social struggles of our world and the human desire for
civil
liberties.

WHO:
Thirty-three artists from the US
and
around the world. Participating artists include Taiwan-born
Long-Bin Chen, known for his sculptures and installations carved from
telephone
books and Yellow Pages, and Melissa Atkinson, known for her” Berlin
Crosses”
etching . Also, Award-winning
Chilean artist Guillermo Bert will feature two from his ironic Bar Code
Series
that encode the word Democracy in the actual art, and Melissa Atkinson. The Consulting Curator for this show is
Cynthia Nadelman.

Following
three successful shows in Los Angeles, this
is the Visual Artists Guild’s first New York exhibition.
Visual
Artists Guild is a 501(C)(3) non-profit, all volunteer-based
organization that champions the right of freedom of speech and
expression. Established in May 1985, it believes that freedom of
expression is the lifeblood of all artists. Its mission is to bring to
the world’s attention whenever such a right is threatened or suppressed.
