WHAT: The Visual Artists Guild is sponsoring the ART & DEMOCRACY IV Exhibition to highlight the 20 Year Anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre and the Fall of the Berlin Wall with the work of 34 acclaimed artists highlighting the political and social struggles of our world and the human desire for civil liberties.

WHEN: Thursday, October 29, reception 6 - 9 pm, poetry reading 7-8 pm. Admission free 

WHERE: Gallery H, 222 East 34th Street (bt.. 2nd & 3rd Aves.) New York City

WHO: (from 7-8 pm)   We are broadening our definition of art to include poetry.  Six poets and readers representing Brazil, Korea, Poland, China, New Jersey, Iowa and W.91st Street will briefly read from their works.  The poets are:  Chungmi Kim, Cheryl Moore, Cynthia Nadelman, Elzbieta Szoka, Catherine Tinker, Huang Xiang. 

WHO; (FROM 6-9PM)   The 34 exhibiting artists, many of whom will be attending, are: Karin Lisa Atkinson, Melissa Atkinson, Guillermo Bert, Ramona Candy, Long-Bin Chen, Gabriel Ching, Scott Jeffrey Cousins, Wojciech Cwiertniewicz, Lois E. Dickson, Valentina DuBasky,  Diane Grazette-Collins, Guy Grimm, LeRoy Henderson, Hui Wai (Adam) Keung, Polly King, Lap Lam, Shaomin Li, Jacob Livshultz, Jeanne Miles, Gregory Montreuil,  Celeste JB Morton, Philip Nadelman, Kathryn Nobbe, Mike Quon, Christine Randolph, Louise Reiner, William Rock, Lisa Ross, Rose Sacktor, Jacqueline Shatz, Tess Steinkolk, Jude Papaloko Thegenius, Hai Wong, Association of Overseas Hong Kong Chinese for Democracy & Human Rights.  The Consulting Curator for the show is art critic Cynthia Nadelman.

Meet the artists, and enjoy cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, door prizes, and raffle. The Art & Democracy celebration includes a 3-month series of special events, including: 11/5 Tiananmen film, 11/12 Burma film, 12/3 The Vagina Monologues in China.  Following three successful shows in Los Angeles, this is the Visual Artists Guild's first New York exhibition.
